A Baker’s Kitchen
Originally built as a spec house, this home had all the latest and greatest design elements…of 1995. A peninsula with stovetop and hanging overhead cabinets separated the kitchen from the family room. The project included:
- A complete redesign of the kitchen layout
- Removal of the peninsula and hanging cabinets
- Addition of a large custom-island, built at “baker’s height” and soapstone counters
The couple are the original owners of the home and recognized that after 25 years, it was time to update the kitchen. It had an inefficient layout and wasn’t up to the standards of their cooking abilities. The homeowner loves to cook and bake and was excited to design and build her dream kitchen, which included taking her petite height into account. Meanwhile, her husband is very methodical and highly organized. The combination called for a completely new layout to create the perfect chef’s kitchen and a specific place for everything they needed.
Appliances included a Bluestar Pro-Style range with top burner power ranging from 9,000 Btus to 22,000 Btus, a Classico Pro-Style exhaust hood with variable exhaust capacity ranging between 600 CFM and 1200 CFM, and Bosch speed oven and warming drawer.
In addition to the new layout and professional appliances, we customized an oversized island at “baker’s height” – allowing her to knead and roll dough at a comfortable position. Of course, a mixer lift was included in the island design.
