Globally Inspired Bath

While this 1950s-era bathroom appeared functional (although it turned out to have been leaking for many years), it’s distinctive pink and black tile and matching pink tub was simply outdated and no longer appropriate for this home. The dated bath had to serve not only their children, but also any guests and visitors to the home. The homeowners desired an updated, highly functional, guest and family bathroom. The new bathroom was designed to be both functional and beautiful.

The homeowners had traveled recently to Morocco where they had seen a lattice detail in window openings and on wall tiles that they wanted to use as inspiration for the bathroom design. The tile on the shower wall and backsplash were handmade and imported from Morocco. In fact, each 12” section of the shower accent tile is comprised of a series of small handmade mosaic tiles which are cemented together. The accent tile is reminiscent of the window lattice detail, and a variation of the same tile was used for the backsplash at the sink.

This “old-world” sensibility was paired with contemporary flair, including features like a “floating” vanity with a Porcelanosa lighted mirror above, a vessel sink and glass shower enclosure.
